About us

The team

Hello, my name is Kirsi Korosec.

In 2018, I volunteered at a school in Ghana.
Since then, I have been organizing various projects in the Volta-Region together with my project partner Lyle.
I am mainly responsible for the organization and finances.

Hello, my name is Bilal Kassim, also known as Lyle.

I am the project partner of Kirsi and I support wherever I can so that the projects can be carried out!

I come from Ghana and live in the Volta Region, near Kpando. My profession is a primary school teacher in the village of Gbefi.

Smile of Nipa

Our projects are carried out in the name of "Smile of Nipa". But what does that actually mean?

Smile of Nipa means "the smile of a human being".
Nipa means "human" in Twi, the most widely spoken language in Ghana.

We want to put a smile on people's faces!

Leitmotif

1. "Together we can do it"

It is very important to us that the project is carried out together. This means that the respective village should also contribute to the implementation of the project.

It is important to us that the project is a collaborative one and has the motto “Together we can do it”.

Unfortunately, this is sometimes difficult. The bigger the project, the more difficult it is to motivate the residents.

But it usually works well and everyone contributes something positive.

2. Reliability and conscientiousness

The finances and procedures are managed safely and conscientiously. Every GHC (Ghana Cedi) is recorded and discussed in detail.
Only Bilal Kassim and Kirsi Korosec are in charge of the donations.

They all work on a voluntary basis. This is simply because we are not a large organization, but consist of two people who have developed a great passion for these activities. That's why we can't and don't want to pay anyone, but put every GHC into the projects for the children.

3. Selection of projects

Kirsi and Bilal select the projects that they consider important and meaningful.

First of all, it was important to Kirsi that she looked at the future projects personally and recognized the opportunities that each project offered. Eventually, she returned to Austria to continue her life there.

Since then, Bilal has been coming up with ideas and discussing very carefully why and where the need lies. However, this is not difficult for us, as we share the same perspective on these issues. It's not really about whether there is a need (as there is almost always a need in public schools), but whether this would be the best support as a new project.

The discovery usually happens during the normal course of everyday situations. Suddenly you arrive at a place and see that there is a great need for support. You feel strong, personal sympathy and motivation to change something. These emotions help us find the right projects.

Although our focus is primarily on children and their education, other social projects may also arise. If we see a great need, feel a strong sense of solidarity and it is financially feasible, then we do not set any limits based on a specific topic.

4. Acknowledgments

We thank each and every one of you!
It is thanks to you that these projects are possible!

We didn't think it was possible, but the first benefit concert triggered a chain reaction!
We will never forget how, a few days after the concert, an incredibly brave girl from the choir called Kirsi and asked if she could give a presentation about the project at her school.  If her presentation was the most convincing, the donations from the following Christmas would go towards our project. And so it happened!
Kirsi was also approached by many kind people. For example, we have received donations from golden wedding, milestone birthday, the mass in Perchtoldsdorf and the punch stall.

We were surprised at how many people were so willing to help. We received such great support for the project.

Thanks to you, there are a handful of children in Ghana who are getting a small step towards a better education. Whether it's a school book, an armchair or, in the rainy season, a roof over their heads while they study. And thanks to you, there are more and more children and more and more small steps.
We had an idea and you brought it to life.
